One of Europe’s hottest performing artists, Akram Khan will brind for Los Angeles premiere his progressive works highlight Khan’s quest to build the bridges between the worlds of contemporary dance and Kathak, exploring the influences of modernity and tradition. The company’s first piece -12 minutes performance entitled Loose in Flight -, uses the structural base of Kathak and continuosly attemps to break out into lyrical passages of action, blending and merging the classic Indian tradition with contemporary dance and accompanied by a driving score by Angie Atmadjaja.

Writer-director Joe Jordan describes it this way: “The show itself is a product of mixing Arthur Koestler’s “Ghost in the Machine” and Lewis Carroll’s “Alice In Wonderland”. It’s a young person’s journey of discovering what it means to be a unique individual in a world where everyone and everything is part of a larger group”.

In conjunction with the opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall, MoCA presents an exhibition of recent design projects by architect Frank Gehry entitled Frank O. Gehry: Work in Progress. The exhibition, which is on view from September 2003 to January 2004 at the Museum, focuses on Gehry's design process, following an idea from its inception through building construction. Work in Progress is organized by MoCA's Architecture and Design Curator Brooke Hodge.

The play, Solamente una vez/You Belong to My Heart-Agustín Lara, is an original work by Margarita Galban and Lina Montalvo, translated to English by Lina Montalvo. Lara created more than six hundred compositions during his career and gained an international reputation with such classics as Mujer, Madrid, Granada, Noche de Ronda and Veracruz. Lara was also known for his ability to assimilate different musical styles, danzón, fox, trot waltz, blues, bolero and early jazz. He was known to be quite the ladies man; his most notable relationship was with the beautiful actress María Félix for whom he wrote the ever popular song María Bonita.

The iconic, powerful and often disquieting works of three important American photographers have the focus of Strange Days: Photographs from the Sixties by Winogrand, Eggleston, and Arbus, at the Getty from July 1 to October 5, 2003. The exhibition spotlights more than 80 black-and-white works by Garry Winogrand, William Eggleston, and Diane Arbus, who were all active during the turbulent 1960s. Each, in a unique way, captured memorable images and evocations of that era on film.
